DMEM, high glucose, with L-glutamine and phenol red, no HEPES, by Captivate Bio is formulated for superior quality, reliability, and consistency. Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) is a modification of Basal Medium Eagle (BME) that contains high concentrations of amino acids and vitamins. The original formulation contained 1000 mg/L of glucose and was used to culture embryonic mouse cells. Since then, it has been modified in several ways to support primary cultures of mouse and chicken cells, as well as a variety of normal and transformed cells. Cells successfully cultured in DMEM include primary fibroblasts, neurons, glial cells, HUVECs, and smooth muscle cells, as well as cell lines such as HeLa, 293, Cos-7, and PC-12.

This DMEM is modified to contain 4 mM L-glutamine, 4500 mg/L glucose, 1 mM sodium pyruvate, and 1500 mg/L sodium bicarbonate. DMEM contains no proteins, lipids, or growth factors and requires supplementation, commonly with 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) or 5-10% human platelet lysate (HPL). DMEM uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system (3.7 g/L), and therefore requires a 5-10% CO2 environment to maintain physiological pH.
